Khumbu Climber - 9 Oct to 7 Nov '05

Written by Leader Tania Noakes, November 2005

The Khumbu Climber team have just made it safely back to Namche Bazaar on their way out from the Khumbu Valley after a very successfull and enjoyable expedition. Pokalde, Island Peak and Lobuje East were all scaled in good style, due to a strong team and an extended period of good weather. As I write this, the team is taking a well-earned rest day in Namche following a thoroughly energetic night out in the famous 'Club Paradiso'. Climbers, Sherpas and Nepali staff were seen playing pool and dancing the small hours away, assisted by copious quantities of San Miguel. So much so in fact that our illustrious Sirdar, Dawa, and youthfull climbing Sherpa, Tsering (4 times Everest summiteer!) are still sound asleep! An airlift is ongoing to restock Namche with beer.

All team members agreed the climbing was fantastic. Pokalde providing an excellent first summit and training peak, swiftly followed by Island Peak and fantastic views of the imposing Lhotse Face. Finally, we had more challenging climbing on the superb snow arete of Lobuje East and a scenic wind down over the Cho La Pass. What a wonderfull action-packed expedition and a great group of friends to share it with. See you all in the hills!
