Khumbu Climber - 30 March to 27 April

Written by Leader Gordon Thompson, May 2003

A full team of eight members, plus leader Gordon Thompson accompanied by Sirdar Lapka Sherpa and Climbing Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, summited on Pokalde on 9 April 2003. Although knee deep snow made going difficult, everyone pulled it out of the bag to get to the 5806m summit. On the 13 April, we climbed from High camp on Island peak in colder conditions which meant the snow was more compact, although the slope onto the ridge was still quite difficult. 6 members made it to the top of Island peak. After rest and trekking up to Lobuje, 6 members summited on Lobuje East on 18 April. Although there were some pretty afternoon snow flurries, the expedition was blessed with outstanding weather througout. « | »
