Khumbu Climber 9 April to 7 May 2000

Written by Leader Mungo Ross, Andy Owen, December 2000

Deep snow and cold conditions this spring has been affecting all of our teams in Nepal. The Khumbu Climber group made it up Island Peak and Pokalde, to the high camp on Lobuje East (Andy Owen decided that there was no way that the team could continue in such difficult conditions). On Kangshung Peak, it was a similar story. The guides took a look and had no option but to turn the team back. They were faced with hard ice on the upper ridge, making an ascent out of the question. Nevertheless, everyone did extremely well despite some difficulties in acclimatising in the early stages of the trip. « Previous report | »
